The Trio Sonata in 18th-Century Germany

with the exception of Goldberg's sonata these compositions are not that well-known and that makes this disc a worthwhile addition to the discography. That is even more the case in consideration of the performances. London Baroque is one of the older ensembles in the world of historical performance practice. It is still going strong, and it is remarkable how it has kept its high standard over so many years. --MusicWeb International, 6th September 2013

London Baroque

The closing disc in London Baroques survey of the rise and fall of the trio sonata.

Looking back over this eight-disc series, which opened with three Fantasias composed before 1620 by Orlando Gibbons, it becomes clear how far London Baroque has travelled. The series has taken in both staples of the repertoire and more or less unknown jewels, by composers still revered today or awaiting rediscovery.

Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach: Sinfonias, Concerto

This recording of works by Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, the least well-known of the four composer sons of Bach, marks the completion of the FBOs highly acclaimed series Bachs Sons on the Carus label. Unlike his prominent brothers Carl Philipp and Johann Christian, the Bueckeburg Bach never ventured beyond the provinces, serving as a court musician for forty years at the court of the Count of Schaumburg-Lippe. But his music is anything but provincial. It moves impressively between the styles of both brothers, combining the artistic demands of Carl Philipp with the light Italian tone of the younger brother Johann Christian, and so defies easy musical categorization.

Symphonies by the Bach Sons

This recording highlights the significant role which the sons of JS Bach played in the development of the symphony. The beginnings of the symphony remain under-exposed. Bach Concentus devotes itself to the instrumental and vocal repertoire of the Baroque and Classical periods, specialising in works by the Bach dynasty.

"Whatever the erudition - and this is manifestly considerable - that is put into realising the present symphonies the bottom line is the end result: in the present CD it is brilliant. All the spontaneity, colour and ultimately cool textures of these works are vividly brought out. They excited me, moved me and thoroughly entertained me." --MusicWeb International
